Alpe d'huez is where most things happen and probably the best place to stay, as that is where you pick up all your race plate and passes from.

Its your lift passes for the week so you can access the whole mountain there is so much to ride not just the mega course, I went last year and had an awsome weeks riding full stop. One note for all travelling you fly to lyon st exupery airport then get the bus to Grenoble then there is a bus through from there to aple d'huez except on a sunday (very limited about 2 buses all day) when you can get to the bottom of the mountain a place called Le bourg de osians and maybe get a taxi up for about 40 euros.
